Disneyland is known to be the happiest place on earth.
But when you have the whole family in tow? That’s a next-level experience. It was magical, exhausting, and definitely expensive.
This time, it wasn’t just me and Jan. We brought almost everyone! Our three kids, my mom and sister, along with Jan’s mom, sister and her husband, and then his brother's wife and their daughter.
This is our second family trip and the biggest one yet. So how did it go? Read on.
Parents on Duty
Okay, let’s get one thing straight. Jan and I didn’t get to ride a lot. Why? Because we were busy doing the real challenge: chasing after the kids and making sure the seniors are still okay. While the rest of the family had their adrenaline fix on the Big Grizzly Mountain, we were stuck on the kiddie rides. But hey, no FOMO here. We had already checked everything off our thrill-ride list back in 2017. This time, it was all about making sure the kids had their turn at the magic.
The Frozen Ride
One of the biggest highlights of the day was riding Frozen Ever After at the World of Frozen, the world’s first and largest Frozen-themed land! We all went on it. Yes, even the grown-ups, because, honestly, the cold never bothered us anyway. Or did it?

Fireworks, Frosty Air, and Full Hearts
By 6pm, crowds were already gathering in front of the castle, claiming the best spots for the much-awaited Momentous. The area was already packed that early, but instead of squeezing in, we opted for dinner at the Royal Banquet. We ordered one meal per person ($160 HKD each). Big mistake. The portions were huuuuge. More than enough for two! By the end, we were stuffed, and still had to take home two small untouched trays.
At 8:30 PM, they started calling people to gather in front of the castle. As if there was any space left. Even if there was, there is no way we are weaving into a crowd with small kids and seniors.
So, we settled for a cozy, crowd-free spot at a distance. Was it the best view? Not really. But was it the most comfortable? You bet. There’s still something special about standing in the crisp winter air, bundled up in jackets, and watching the sky light up with Disney magic.
With all the excitement (and chaos) of managing kids, making sure everyone was having fun, and just soaking in the moment, we completely failed to take a lot of photos. What's new? It happened before and I'm not surprised it happened again. I just have a handful of random snaps in between rides and meals. But maybe that’s a good thing. Sometimes, the best memories aren’t the ones captured on camera but the ones we actually live.
By the end of the day, the kids were happy (plus they got new toys), the adults were exhausted, and our wallets was crying. But was it worth it? Absolutely.
Would we do it again? Yes! But maybe when Isabel is already 7 (we'll probably be at Tokyo Disneyland by then).
Until next time, Disneyland!
