A White Night to Remember

By Sarah Aterrado - December 14, 2015

First of all, damn I have got to think of a killer opening line for my blog post... "First of all" just doesn't cut it. But yeah, first of all, I'd like to congratulate myself for totally nailing that 299-peso ($6) dress and made it look like Marilyn Monroe's iconic flying skirt.

Today, I spent good twenty minutes (or longer?!) staring at the blank screen, agonizing over my lack of creativity and even pleading for the words to come and make love with me. But they're just as stubborn as I am. Why is it that when I'm too happy I lose the ability to write sensibly? I could've done some free-flow-writing-shit but I'm afraid I might end up with a 500-word essay about the hottest thing on my Facebook feed nowadays: politics. And as exciting as Philippine politics is becoming, writing about it is becoming as equally as boring. I'd rather write something incomprehensible like why potatoes are better than diamonds than shove my belief down the people's throat. (Come on! Seriously guys, vote for Duterte.)

Why so happy, you may ask? Last December 12, 2015 was Davao Bloggers Society's White Christmas Party at Park Inn by Radisson Hotel. Now I know why I had that strong feeling why I should dress up properly for that night. I didn't know I would actually bag that Best Personal Blog award for this year's Davao Blog Awards. (insert muffled shrieks here)

My heart is full of gratitude, but since my mind still refuses to work (now that's a good excuse for being lazy), I'll just copy whatever was said on my Facebook:

Strike 2 na ka Sarah ha. All the while I thought that writing was just an emotional outlet or a way to vent out my thoughts. Then I realized that this is a gift. A gift meant to be shared. And I thank God for that.

I would also like to thank my family, especially my mom Letty and dad Delfin for their undying support. And, of course, to my number one fan and critic, Jan, for inspiring me and pushing me to do better.

To my friends who continuously click the links I feed on Facebook, to the Davao Bloggers Society who recognized my blog's worth, and to everyone who read, loved, hated, followed, and critcized my blog... From the header to the footer of my blog, THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH!

I will continue to inspire and do better. Ad majorem Dei gloriam.

This is the first time I've joined Davao Bloggers Society's Christmas Party, and the best thing is, I didn't just win but this time, I am now an official member. Woot!

Anyway, as someone known to be a chameleon who can blend easily and well with the surroundings, people probably won't believe me when I say I can be a socially awkward person especially in events like this where everybody looks so clean and dressed up, where I had to forget my brusko self and act with poise. Good thing Farah was there. Or else, I would have found myself stuffing these goodness in my mouth all the time so that no one would bother to talk to me or come near me for that matter.
Or if they did, I can just pretend to choke to end the conversation and walk away with an excuse. Mahirap na, if we'd have a lengthy conversation, they just might find out about my obsession with spiders and it might creep them out. Baka di na ako isasali sa susunod.
With gorgeous mom, long time friend, Farah
But I had a great time. Syempre nanalo na, mag-eemo pa ba ako? I was actually all smiles the whole time. Sayang ang dress, 299 din yan. Kailangan mapicturan. Minsan lang ako nagiging chix.

Anyway, here are some awesome photos (because I'm in it) during the party. (photos courtesy Davao Bloggers Society).
Winner, Best Personal Blog
Aside from this certificate, I also got a jacket from SMART (which I really love and it fits me well), some goodies from MySkinOrigins (their soap smells nice, btw), and delicious chocolates from Kai Artisan.
I thought I stopped being a camwhore. Pero naka dress eh, minsan lang to kaya todohin na!

Overall, the event was fun, the food was great, I met a lot of new and old faces, and I took home a lot of goodies (my bad, I haven't taken a picture of that, most of them were already used and devoured before I could even say thank you. Sorry).

I wish I have won those big and special awards though, like that trip to Singapore, that iPhone 6, the Fujifilm instax, or even that Audio Technica headphones. Akala ko nilubayan na ako ng sumpa ng Spin The Bottle dahil lagi na lang sa akin nakaturo ang bote. But hey, look at me winning all the "bottled" prizes in the event. Haha

Hindi kaya madaling magdala ng dalawang mabibigat na bote noh, lalo na't nakadress pa. Haha

Christmas parties are just around the corner. I hope you all have a blast this season! :)
