Oftentimes, people see dating as eating out together at a fancy restaurant, holding hands while walking at the mall, hanging out in a coffee shop, or watching movies together. That's cute. But I think I've already outgrown these kind of dates and I don't get impressed with pretty flowers and chocolates anymore. On a second thought, the chocolates would do. Super dark, please.
Anyway. Jan and I have been going out on countless dates and we are always on the look for something that will allow us to truly know each other but... with a twist. We're looking for something beyond those movie dates and candelight dinners. Something more challenging and exciting. Something worth reminiscing and laughing about over and over again.
Here's a list of nine exciting date ideas (as illustrated in crappy pictures) that we have been doing, and I thought I might share this with you, too - which you may also this find interesting and fun to try:
1. Chase waterfalls
Jan and I have been to a lot of waterfalls. Mysteriously, the waterfalls has its way of drawing us close to nature. Its power combined with grace can give us sense of peace, inspiration, and pleasure. Should the need to relax arises, the waterfalls' mists and roaring thunder can soothe the weary nerves. And not only will it pull you close to nature but closer to each other, too.
2. Hike a mountain
There is nothing more satisfying than the feeling of freedom you get from scaling a mountain and standing above the clouds. Much more when you experience it with the one you love. Hiking a mountain could be eventful sometimes but its rewards when you conquer it will never be unparalleled even by the most expensive luxurious hotel stay. Plus, it is also a test of your relationship where you can get really comfortable with the uncomfortable.
3. Go spelunking
Instead of slowly becoming a caveman right inside your home, why not explore a real cave instead? Spelunking makes a cheap but thrilling and exciting date. Yes, dangers could be up ahead, but that's where the thrill comes. And the best thing about that is you'll see how much you care for each other so much.
4. Do something that will pump up the adrenaline
Go ziplining? Cycling in the sky? Or a roller coaster ride? The list that could get your heart racing can go on. If you are up for a real thrill, get in line and hop on to that ride of a lifetime. Guaranteed to get your adrenaline rushing you might end up saying "I'm never doing that again", but it will be something you would love to talk about over and over again.
5. Play a sport together

Yeah, we got lost during our anniversary day hike. LOL |

Bat droppings, aren't really that bad. Haha. Yuck! |

Guaranteed to get your adrenaline rushing you might end up saying "I'm never doing that again", but it will be something you would love to talk about over and over again.
5. Play a sport together
Research says that couples who play together, stay together. I believe there's a correlation between physical recreational activities and the strength of relationships. Because not only that exercise elevates your endorphin levels (happy hormones), but it is also proven to increase libido and improve your sex life as well. (I'm talking to mature adults here, am I not?) ;)
So, if you need to hoist your relationship up a little bit, consider playing a sport.
6. Go to the beach
So, if you need to hoist your relationship up a little bit, consider playing a sport.
Jan taught me to play ping-pong. And I'm getting pretty good at it. Well, I have a great coach! :) |
6. Go to the beach
But instead of staying in a posh beach resort with first class accommodation, go on an open beach and pitch a tent (bonus if there's a guitar). Simple yet romantic. We've done this a lot of times and it never gets old. ♥
7. Go SCUBA diving
Going underwater is otherwordly. You will find a dazzling array of beautiful underwater creatures in their beautiful abode. You will find it to be incredibly peaceful down there. Aside from your breathing, which I find so relaxing by the way, you will hear nothing. When you go underwater together, you forget about your world and all the stressors that come with it. Plus, both of you will have something precious to share - an astonishing, indescribable, and memorable otherwordly experience.
8. Take long walks
There were times when Jan and I would decide to go on long walks instead of commuting. The thing about walking is, it doesn't make you idle - both physically and mentally. I've noticed that during our long walks, conversation becomes non-stop. We'd talk about anything from trivial topics about the outer space to the random good-for-nothing rock on the road. And we'd be in our destination before we even know it. Talking can draw both of you closer together. Walking keeps you fit. It's hitting two birds with one stone. :)
9. Spend some quiet time together
Might not be the same adrenaline-pumping, breath-taking, heart-stopping dates I've mentioned above. But having a quiet time together is meaningful. In a very overstimulating world, it's nice to unplug and escape from all the distractions sometimes. But it's nicer to do that with someone you love, too. You will feel the connection even in the absence of words. You'll find joy in just being there.
Dating is a great way to create memories together. There's nothing wrong with those usual movie or dinner dates. But trust me, they will become highly monotonous, less interesting, and it's not something your grandchildren will be interested to hear. Dating should be fun. Of course, this list won't define the "flavor" of your relationship. You can make your own list too. Go ahead and don't be afraid to add a little spice, get lost in the beauty the world has to offer, and go on dates that could etch great memories into the core of your relationship. :)

Love these ideas!!!
ReplyDeleteReally worth trying. Thank you! :)
DeleteBeautiful Blog, Inspiring and out spoken. You show passion within your writing and its amazing. Good Luck :D
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ashleigh! :)
DeleteGreat ideas! I am such an outdoors person so these are awesome tips! Now all I have to do is find a date haha!
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about finding a date. You can those things with a friend or a best friend. ;)
DeleteLove the list! My boyfiend and I enjoy to go in the park and read our books. We also love the "date" like visiting bookstore! Okay, too nerdy but we love it! <3
ReplyDeleteWe also visit the bookstore (specifically Booksale). But usually Jan would help me find a certain book. I'm trying to complete a series kasi. Haha.
DeleteGreat ideas! I love your doodles too! Being married and all, it is mostly #9 for us! Lol.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I understand (even if I'm not married yet) that you won't have all the time you want to go dating. But definitely #9 is a must.
Deleteyour doodles are so cute and funny! how i wish i am as adventurous as you. can only do 6, 8 and 9. i love the list btw!
ReplyDeleteYou should try others, too! Chasing waterfalls isn't that hard. Not all waterfalls require hiking. ;)
DeleteHahaha! I love your doodles! Naaliw akosa lahat. Your blog is even more interesting than it already is. I think we already did almost everything except 1 2 and 7. Diba you've been to Bohol? Have you tried Plunge sa adventure park nila? Yung bf ko mas babae pa kung tumili sa akin. Try it with Jan, you'll be surprised mas matatakutin pa ang mga lalake kesa sa ating mga babae.
ReplyDeleteYun din tingnan ko, mas matatakutin pa sa atin ang mga lalake. I did several daredevil stunts before, but not Jan. Haha. I wanted to try the Plunge, but the weather wasn't in favor with us. Kaya yun, sayang.
DeleteThese dating ideas are great. I must admit we haven't done the adventurous ones. We enjoy playing tennis, table tennis and badminton, but we rarely do nowadays.
ReplyDeleteWe play badminton, too! I just learned how to play table tennies. Although I'm not really that good. Practice pa. Hehe.
DeleteI've been here quite a long time just reading. But I can't help but to comment on this. I know you are a very good artist but these "crappy pictures" are gold. Great list too.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Vince! This made my day.
DeleteIndeed an adventurous date and these tips looks great for adventurous people too. Well, it's great to find love at the top of the mountain, I think.
ReplyDeleteYes it is! Thank you for dropping by. :)
DeleteGoing out of the dating norms is more exciting. Exploring new places and trying out new things are great dating ideas. :)
ReplyDeleteUh-huh. A good way to add spice to the relationship.
DeleteNice ideas when we are still bf/gf we used to travel and go to the beach.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it will lessen, but it should not stop when getting married, right?
DeleteMy husband and I we always have a date, every time na nandito sya sa pinas we always spending time together, We always have Quite time (Bible reading and prayer time), overnight swimming, (di talaga yan mawawala kasi we are the swimming lovers haha, lol) play sports together, (pero ngayon na may anak na kami sinasamahan nalang namin sya magbasketball,)
ReplyDeleteThat's good to hear. Dates doesn't have to be exclusively na kayong lang dalawa, diba?
DeleteAdventures like hiking and etc. is my style. The feeling of finishing the whole activity with your special someone is really amazing. Great list :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mark!
DeleteIf I were to add with hiking a mountain, is go camping outdoor..
ReplyDeleteI find this a very good alternative, what with star gazing or just stay cuddling inside the tent at night.
I would forgo Scuba Diving, my partner isnt that brave in the water..
But we do snorkeling together, its a better work out option.
There's a difference between snorkeling, free diving or even scuba diving.
We can add some more.. Cliff Jumping or jump shots from mountain summit. hahhaha!
Anything under the sun eh.
I agree, its not good to be monotonous. :)
Yeah, we can add more. The list can go on.
DeleteFirst, cute illustrations! I wish I could draw too haha... You got some good ideas there, only I don't have a boyfriend, but I'll take note of your suggestions especially the chasing the waterfalls and cycling in the sky part!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yeah, you should try it.
DeleteWe are about to explore a cave in our upcoming trip to Vietnam. I'm already excited to experience more date adventures in the next week. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, good for you sis! Good luck and have a safe trip!
DeleteDid you draw them yourself? That's cool! My husband and I have at least done some of them like: Quiet time, long walks, go to beach, play sport (& jog), Adrenalin rush activities, spelunking, chase waterfalls. We've been together for almost 7 years now. But, he left to work abroad for 2 years so I'm setting all these aside.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's really good to hear! And yes, I drew them. It's one of my shtick now - to incorporate doodles in my blogs.
DeleteDone with #5,6,8,9 and more to go. These adventure date idea are gems.
ReplyDeleteYay! That's nice to hear. :)
DeleteI love the idea of spending quiet time with each other.. which is very difficult for us at the moment as he is working overseas.
ReplyDeleteYou'll get through the distance. And when the time comes you'll be with your love, you can have all the quiet times together sis.
DeleteInteresting date ideas. Pero for me, since medyo masasakit na ang buto ko. Spending a quiet time will be fine.
ReplyDeleteThose things are great. But you know what I am thinking is sleeping together in an open air. It could be romantic, especially under the moonlight.
ReplyDeleteThese are good ideas. I think I really need an adventurous partner because these are things I love to do.
ReplyDeleteNice post! The drawings makes it more livelier. Haha
ReplyDeleteI was able to try the cycling in the sky in Bohol. Hiking and chasing waterfalls is also a cool date idea.
ReplyDeleteQuiet time and long walks together are both staples for me and my hubby, plus very long conversations about ideas and parenting. Not really an active person physically, so most of the stuff on your list is beyond me haha.
ReplyDeleteAww, this is so cute!
ReplyDeleteI love chasing waterfalls! It's so exciting and cheaper compared to luxurious dates around the metro.
Aye || http://ayelaniton.com
I enjoyed the illustrations. So cute! haha :)
ReplyDeletehaha! the photos are so cute. these ideas are cheap and definitely would give you more time to talk to each other as well.
